9.02.2013

be brave.

however you are choosing to spend your holiday, remember this..
be brave.

and, if you're me, spend as much time as possible in your pjs while watching way too much hgtv {but that's besides the point}.

{i love this song and the video is just perfect. i couldn't help but share the goodness.}

7.23.2013

my gift to you.

even though the world of marketing insists on starting back to school ads, DO NOT BE FOOLED.
it is still summer.
and i refuse to believe otherwise.

to keep the good vibes coming, i made this summer playlist for your listening pleasure (it is on my summer bucket list after all.)

i hope you enjoy it while sitting in the sunshine, or with your car windows rolled down, or while hanging out in your pajamas at 3:30 in the afternoon just because you can (not that i would know anything about that.)

long. live. summer.

tristan prettyman and that time i almost threw down.

 photo photo-63_zps5385d219.jpg
i had no idea who tristan prettyman was until kendra emailed me and was all, "do you want to go see tristan prettyman?"
i can never refuse a concert for a female singer songwriter, so i was in.

i did a little research on spotify and realized that i actually loved her.
all the songs off her new album, cedar + gold, are perfectly melancholy, so i obviously couldn't get enough.

i found out the night of the show that tristan was engaged to jason mraz, but he broke it off!
{the nerve}
so all of her most recent songs come of out the depths of her post breakup despair.
no wonder i liked her.
 photo photo-62_zps68602b00.jpg
i had a wonderful night with kendra and rachel, getting drinks before the show, chatting it up, actually enjoying an opener for once {you need to know about anya marina...she is awesome, hilarious, and does a mean cover of "whatever you like" by t.i.}, and trying not to get in a fight with the crazy in front of us.

yep.
this woman was certified cra cra who had obviously had way too many drinks that night.
flipping people off and trying to start fights with everyone in sight.
at one point i tried my best to have security come over and kick her out, but they were obviously not as concerned as me.
just saying. i would have given her a taste of her own medicine if necessary.
i can see the headlines now, "middle school english teacher throws punches at the bluebird while swaying to the sounds of an acoustic guitar."
 photo photo-64_zpsa5efaa56.jpg
now, back to tristan.

i loved her skirt, but i loved her music more.
this breakup situation created some really beautiful music.
it does seem like the best art comes from pain, huh?

if you're unfamiliar with her music, educate yourself.

i made a little playlist for your listening pleasure, including some anya marina, the hilarious opener.
enjoy.

a snowy evening soundtrack.

 photo IRIuc_zpsc30cf2fe.jpg

the oh hello's create a perfect soundtrack to this snowy evening in denver.
so cuddle up, grab a drink, and relax.
and pray with me for a snow day tomorrow.
because of all the prayers you could choose to pray, one for a snow day is obviously the most important.

falling into fall...a playlist.

Photobucket

i love melancholy music.
it's kind of my thing.
{people used to say i liked it so much because it was my outlet for my lack of emotions, but now that i'm a certified basket case, your guess is as good as mine.}

and there's no better time than fall to bust out my favorite slow moving, introspective selections while cuddling on the couch with a cup of coffee.

yes, i like to be stereotypical in how i celebrate my seasons.

enjoy!

of monsters and men.

during one of my wedding shower games, i had to answer a series of questions that mr. lesley had also answered to see how many of our responses were a match.

well, for one of the questions, it went something like this,

your partner has too many...
a. clothes
b. movies
c. books

to which mr. lesley responded "clothes, but she also has too much depressing coffee shop music."

yes, it's true.
i have a special spot in my heart for all things melancholy.

so imagine my joy when mr. lesley of all people introduced me to this band this last week.

granted, they are a little more upbeat that some of my other favs, but they still fall into the coffee shop category.

i hope you like them as much as i do.

happy friday.

in other exciting news, mr. lesley and i are getting our engagment pictures taken tomorrow by the amazing steve willis.
here's to hoping i can channel my inner model.
(or at least keep my sweating at bay:)

boat song.

i love this song.
and this video is a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e.

3.15.2012

be still.

i listened to this song this morning while driving to work.
the sunrise was breathtaking.
and the power of these words gave me a lot of peace and confidence to face the day ahead.

i hope it does the same for you.

2.22.2012

we are the tide.

blind pilot (you know, the band i met in real life) just came out with a new album.
this is their title track.
and it's awesome.
you should listen and love it too.

happy wednesday.

6.23.2011

oh bon iver.

you know music is good when you don't even care that you can't understand the words.

5.04.2011

4.07.2011

today calls for...

melancholy tunes.
of which rosie thomas is queen.

remember when i met her?
made. my. life.

i like when it's cloudy and rainy.
it's nice to have a break from denver's 364 days of sunshine.

whatever your weather, i hope you find contentment and joy today.

3.20.2011

i may have found...

Scattered Trees / Love and Leave from Scattered Trees on Vimeo.

and now they are famous.

give them a listen.
you won't be disappointed. i promise.

1.27.2011

love this.

this song may not be indie...
it may be overplayed...
it may not make me cool to post...

BUT...

i sure love dancing to it in the mornings while winston cocks his head to one side and stares at me like i'm ridiculous.

sara bareilles is just so darn cute.
i want to put her in my pocket.

3 cheers for morning dance parties with my pup.

xoxo
