our story begins just like most 20 somethings these days...
one day, as i was busy educating the future of America, what did i see outside my window? oh, just mr. lesley returning from a trip where he was rallying for the rights of a group of chechnyan orphans. he stepped out of the helicopter that landed outside my classroom window, wind blowing through his mane, while nursing a baby elephant of course, and was greeted by a mob of overly excited middle schoolers. as he waded through the myriad of screaming, crying, fainting 12 year olds, mr.lesley laid eyes upon a woman who, though he had never seen before, instantly knew would become his wife. as he approached my classroom, he began his speech, "uh...like...do you...i mean, you can say no if you want...i'm sorry...but...like...do you want to get coffee or dinner sometime?" i was too mesmerized by his winning good looks to notice the awkwardness and instantly said "yes!"
all of the events in the related story are true, except for everything...
mr. lesley and i did meet while teaching at the same school, but with slightly fewer helipads and baby elephants than the previous story would lead you to believe. i caught mr. lesley's eye during the new teacher introductions and from that moment, he was smitten. after skillfully volunteering to be a homework club chaperone alongside me, mr. lesley knew our friendship would blossom into something more. following seven mind numbing months of pretending to help kids with their math homework, mr. lesley finally mustered up the nerve to ask me out for coffee, or perhaps on a date, or maybe even for a whole meal of food. knowing his audience well, mr. lesley finished our first date with a round of shamrock shakes at mcDonalds, and the rest is history.
